Position/Title: Early child education trainer (not paid position)
Post of duty: Mukwamba, Zambia
Contract duration: 3 months with possible extension for other months

Project Background

SPORT2BUILD is a recent independent apolitical Italian organisation, which aims to empower unprivileged children and youth using sport as a tool for social and behaviour change, especially in less developed countries.

Its VISION is to create a harmonious, fair and just society harnessing the development and peace benefits achievable through sport.

The major areas of interest are:

  • child & youth development
  • education, intercultural dialogue, youth participation
  • conflict prevention and resolution
  • physical, mental and social health
  • gender equity
  • social inclusion

Since 2009 Sport2build is present in Zambia with the project “Never Give Up”, organizing football leagues and running race. “Never give up” aims to maximise access and participation to physical activities for children and youth and emphasising the inclusion of all groups in society regardless of gender, ability or culture. Sport is used as a unique tool to achieve education, health and social change with a massive community participation.

Recently it started the construction of a pre-school as a first phase for a wider complex including  primary and secondary school. Sport, art and music will be integrated in the teaching methodology to assure a holistic development of all children. In January 2016 more than 100 children 3-5 yrs old will have access to the pre-school and Sport2build is now recruiting a teacher trainer volunteer to support and mentor teachers for the first 3 months of the program. Considering the rural context and the difficulties in finding qualified teachers, the volunteer will develop technical material and specifically daily lesson plans to insure child centred structured activities will be delivered in a quality learning environment.

Duties and responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the project manager, the early child education trainer will:

  1. Consolidate available ECE technical materials
  2. Design new technical material for the ECE program focusing on child participation, active learning and positive discipline taking into consideration Sport2build methodology of including sport, art and music.
  3. Train Sport2build ECE teachers on the designed curriculum
  4. Monitor and mentor Sport2build ECE teachers during the first quarter of the academic year
  5. Establish and maintain productive work relationship with Sport2build international and national staff
  6. Establish and maintain good relationship with Mukwamba community

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Education, Pedagogy, Social Studies or any other relevant and related field of study
  • Previous experience with NGOs in African countries
  • Strong training skills preferable with teachers
  • Be familiar with SDP (sport for development and peace) topic
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office and internet applications
  • Experience in working with communities
  • Interest in learning and working with people from different cultures
  • Flexibility, initiative and enthusiasm
