I have learnt that it is better to cross the border in the evening there is less people it takes you less time and the day after you are ready to start again directly towards your new destination. Through Namanga I passed in the far 1998 when I climbed Kilimanjaro, which today I hoped to see in the distance but could not: the sky was covered, but I am not sure you can see it from where I passed.

Ho imparato che è meglio attraversare i confine alla sera: c’è meno gente, ci si mette meno e il giorno dopo sei pronto per ripartire direttamente per la nuova destinazione. Da Namanga ci passai nel lontano 1998 quando scalai il Kilimanjaro, che oggi speravo di vedere in lontananza ma non l’ho visto perché il cielo era coperto, ma non sono sicuro si possa vedere da dove sono passato.

Sto pedalando da circa 20 km su questa strada con la dermatite, è piena di pietre incastonate nel terreno, dove cerco sollievo ai lati della strada dove la situazione è leggermente migliore, 40 metri davanti un uomo anziano, musulmano direi a giudicare dal copricapo, si piega, raccoglie una pietra davanti a me, e la butta via nel terreno di fianco alla strada, per rendermi più agevole la pedalata. Quando ci incrociamo mi sorride e mi dice safari njema, fai buon viaggio. Dopo più o meno 500 km di strada impossibile un gesto così è difficile da dimenticare … Continua a leggere

Never Give Up Race 2012 – Quinta gara

113_7095È la mia prima volta al porto di Chaniana. L’atmosfera è diversa da altri villaggi nelle zone rurali di Kafue, c’è un pulsante mercato di pesce, donne con delle stuoie intrecciate per terra piene di pesciolini che il sole sta seccando e sacchi pieni di ghiaccio e pesci freschi, e le barche, la maggior parte fatte in legno con una forma tradizionale altre in più moderna resina approdate sulla riva del Chaniana River, un bacino fluviale del Kafue River. Never Give Up Race 2012 – Fifth Race

113_7095It is my first time at the Chaniana Harbor. The atmosphere is different from the other villages in the rural area of Kafue, there is a thriving fish market, women with interwoven mats on the ground full of small fish which the sun is drying and bags full of ice and fresh fish, and boats, the majority made out of wood with a traditional shape others out of more modern resins berthed at the bank of the Chaniania River, the fluvial basin of the Kafue River.
